Basuki Denies of Urging Roy Suryo to Issue Recommendation

Acting Jakarta Governor Basuki T Purnama denied of having urged Youth and Sports Minister Roy Suryo to immediately issue the recommendation to demolish Lebak Bulus Stadium, South Jakarta, for Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) depot construction land.

According to Basuki, the request for Lebak Bulus Stadium demolition recommendation has been done long ago via an official letter signed by Jakarta Governor Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo in April 2014.

In addition, Basuki also suggested the minister to immediately reply the recommendation request letter sent by Jakarta Provincial Government on the resolution to Lebak Bulus Stadium demolition and Taman BMW Stadium construction, instead of making an opinion on the media.
“He must take action. I’m just waiting for the reply of letter sent in April by Mr. Jokowi. Just reply the letter first. Don’t make slanderous and opinion on the media that I pressured him,” stressed Basuki.
This problem started when Jakarta Provincial Government sent letter to Youth and Sports Ministry to issue a letter of recommendation for Lebak Bulus Stadium demolition for MRT depot. The ministry then said would issue the recommendation as long as the land for Lebak Bulus Stadium replacement is available. Responding that, Jakarta Provincial Government claimed has provided the land in BMW Park area, Sunter, North Jakarta. However, Youth and Sports Ministry accused that the landownership is still unclear due to Jakarta Provincial Government cannot show the land certificate.
